VISITING
BHUTAN – What you NEED to know
I .General
1. Entry by air to Bhutan is by Druk Air, the
official airlines of Bhutan. The airport is at
Paro, 2 hours from Thimpu, the capital.Flights
are from Bangkok, Dhaka, Delhi, Kathmandu and
Kolkatta (Calcutta), flight Nr. BAe 146. Bookings
should be made well in advance because the seating
capacity in Druk Air is 71.Children
below 5 years are allowed free of charge.
2.
Entry overland is from the southern town of Phuntsokling,
6 hours from Thimpu.
3.
The Bhutanese Government discourages tourists
from giving away candies, medicine, money, or
gifts of any kind to the local people; as this
can lead to the unhealthy practice of begging.

4.
The export/import of the following items are strictly
prohibited: -
- arms
& ammunition
- narcotics
and drugs, except prescribed medication

antiques
- wildlife
products
II.
Visa Clearance
1.
To be able to book your tickets with Druk Air
visa clearance must be obtained from the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs,Thimpu Air. Check with the
Bhutan Embassy in your area or its representative.
2.
A Visa Stamp is given on arrival at the port of
entry, on payment of USD 20 for a 15-day visa.
Extension, for a maximum of 6 months, may be obtained
in Thimpu on payment of NU 510 (1 USD = 48 NU).
