The Initiation
We
pray for the good health of His Holiness The Dalai Lama and
hope that the deciples have accumulated enough positive karma
to have Kalachakra in December 2002.
The
Kalachakra initiation is conferred by HH the Dalai Lama to promote
peace and tolerance. The initiation is considered a blessing
for all participants, Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike.
"Kalachakra"
is a Sanskrit word for "the wheel of time". It is based on the
presentation of cycles of time within the Kalachakra Tantra
- spiritual practice. For Buddhist practitioners, taking the
initiation confers permission to begin the study and practice
of the Kalachakra Tantra.
When
the initiation is received with the motivation of freeing all
sentient beings from suffering, one can "actualise realisations
of the path to enlightenment within one's own mind". For everyone
else, the initiation can be taken as a universal prayer for
peace and tolerance.
The
Kalachakra Initiation 2002 is of special significance because
it is held at one of the most sacred Buddhist sites, Bodhgaya
in the State of Bihar, India. It was here that the Buddha Sakyamuni
attained Enlightenment.
According
to Buddha's teaching, the main aim of spritual practice is to
allow us to put an end to all negative accumulations and to
accumulate positive actions. One of the most powerful means
for doing so is to visit holy places with pure aspirations.
